The judicial panel for criminal cases of the Zhambyl Regional Court has reviewed the sentence of former deputy head of the regional police department, Zhaidarbek Kuttybaev, reducing his prison term from six to four years, reports the website infohub.kz.
As reported by the KAZINFORM news agency, the panel also softened the punishment for former acting head of the Talas district police department, Yerken Abayev, who was a defendant in this case: instead of five years, he was sentenced to four years in prison.
The victim in the case was inspector Darkhan Ualiyev. According to the prosecution, Ualiyev was the subject of another criminal prosecution: he faced criminal charges and dismissal from the internal affairs bodies on charges of beating a person.
Yerken Abayev, who then held the post of acting head of the Talas district police department, offered his subordinate to resolve the issue through the deputy head of the regional police department, Zhaidarbek Kuttybaev. According to the case materials, for 5 million tenge, Ualiyev was promised help in retaining his rank and avoiding criminal liability. However, the policeman was taken into custody, after which he reported the transfer of money to law enforcement agencies.
Recall that on June 18, the former deputy head of the police department of the Zhambyl region and the ex-head of the Talas district police department were convicted in a bribery case. Then Zhaidarbek Kuttybaev received six years in prison, and Yerken Abayev - five years. In addition, both were banned for life from working in the civil service and in law enforcement agencies, and were also stripped of their special ranks.
