A former Thai MP opened fire in a government building, wounding two people, reports infohub.kz.
The incident occurred on Monday morning in Nonthaburi province. According to police, the ex-MP, whose name has not been disclosed, surrendered to authorities after claiming he had shot the president of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization and his driver.
The shooting began as the official was preparing to leave the office of the Provincial Public Relations Department, located in the Nonthaburi government complex. According to preliminary investigation, the ex-MP was waiting for the official by his car and then knocked on the window. When the driver opened the window to talk, the suspect drew a pistol and opened fire.
The official sustained four gunshot wounds, including to vital organs, and his driver was also wounded. Rescuers from the Nonthaburi municipality provided first aid and rushed both men to hospital.
According to preliminary data, the shooting may have been sparked by a conflict over support for different election candidates: the shooter was angered that the victim had backed another candidate for parliament.
