A former police officer who struck and killed a one-and-a-half-year-old child in Aktau has been sentenced to one year and six months in prison, according to infohub.kz.
The Mangystau Regional Court said the Aktau City Court found the defendant guilty under Part 3 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan — violation of traffic rules or operation of vehicles by persons driving vehicles.
In addition to imprisonment, the convicted man was banned from driving for five years.
The issue of compensation for damages was resolved out of court. The sentence has entered into legal force.
Recall that in May of this year, a one-and-a-half-year-old child was struck and killed in a courtyard in Aktau. A police officer was behind the wheel of an official vehicle and was placed in a temporary detention facility.
It emerged that the toddler was playing on a playground with his father. At some point, the man became distracted, and the boy ran onto the roadway. At that moment, the driver was reversing and did not see the child — as a result of the collision, the toddler died at the scene of the traffic accident.
