Former Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Olha Stefanyshyna, dismissed from her post on August 3, has become the center of a corruption scandal. Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) has officially charged her with illegal enrichment amounting to 13.9 million hryvnias (about 145.8 million tenge) and providing false information in her declaration, according to infohub.kz.
According to the investigation, Stefanyshyna owned two apartments in a residential complex, registered in the name of a friend, worth nearly 11 million hryvnias. Additionally, at various times she used assets registered to close relatives and subordinates: an apartment in the business-class residential complex "Lvivska Ploshcha" in the capital (registered to her mother), a parking space and several non-residential premises in the same complex (registered to her father), and a Mercedes-Benz GLC 220 d car (registered to a subordinate).
NABU emphasized that the official did not declare these assets. Moreover, she was negotiating the purchase of a house near Kyiv worth about $550,000. The plan was to pay $250,000 in cash and the remainder by transferring the two aforementioned apartments to the seller. However, Stefanyshyna backed out of the deal, likely due to her appointment to a diplomatic post abroad.
Her official income did not allow her to acquire such property. From early 2024 to mid-2025, she earned about 3.7 million hryvnias, yet about 4.2 million hryvnias were spent from her bank accounts alone. Currently, Stefanyshyna has been ordered to post bail of 6 million hryvnias.
Recall that on August 3, Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Olha Stefanyshyna from the post of Ukraine's ambassador to the US. Stefanyshyna herself stated that she made the decision to resign independently: "It is important for me to make such decisions on my own, especially since the main points of the plan with which I arrived have been fulfilled."
