Users on social media noticed an unusual scene on the live stream of the Akashi data center construction in Astana: two excavators were moving chess pieces on a large board set up right on the site, reports infohub.kz.
The video quickly spread across Telegram channels and social networks. Later, it turned out that the project team, together with the Kazakhstan Chess Federation (KazChess), celebrated International Chess Day in this way, playing a game right on the construction site.
"We recently launched a 24/7 construction live stream on our website and thought it would be interesting to occasionally put on small performances at the site. This is a good reason for people who follow the project, as well as the curious, to check out the construction," said a representative from Akashi.
The company added that chess is just the first such experiment. In the future, other unusual installations and performances linked to current events may appear at the construction site.
The Akashi data center being built in Astana will become the largest commercial data center in Central Asia and the first commercial Tier IV facility in the region. This reliability level is held by less than 3% of data centers worldwide. The construction can be watched in real time on the project's official website.
