A verdict has been announced in the Burabay district court for three defendants in the case of an explosion at the 'Plov Center Loft' cafe in Shchuchinsk, which killed 12 people, reports infohub.kz.
The cafe's lessee, the director of an auto gas filling station, and a gas deliveryman stood trial. The lessee was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 292 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (violation of fire safety requirements resulting in the death of more than two persons) and sentenced to 7 years in prison. The gas station director was convicted under Part 3 of Article 306 of the Criminal Code (provision of services not meeting safety requirements, resulting in death by negligence) also to 7 years. The gas deliveryman received 6 years under the same article. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
Recall that on February 26, an explosion occurred in a one-story cafe in Shchuchinsk. Initially, six deaths and 20 injuries were reported. The moment of the explosion was captured on video. The director of 'Plov Center' was detained after the tragedy, and later the cafe owner was arrested for two months. By April 18, the death toll had risen to 12. In June, special prosecutors of Akmola region completed the criminal investigation. During the trial, the defendants apologized but did not admit guilt. In early September, they gave their final statements.
