A video has emerged online showing a dangerous jump into the Caspian Sea near Aktau that nearly ended in tragedy, according to infohub.kz.
Footage shows a man leaping from a cliff into the sea, only to be trapped by strong waves. Struggling to escape, he swims toward shore but successive waves push him toward rocks. Onlookers watch, first urging someone to throw him a life ring, then to extend a hand. At one point, a wave throws him onto a rock, enabling him to climb to safety on his own.
"These guys are crazy," the videographer remarks. Viewers expressed alarm. "Why tempt fate?" "He could have hit his head on a rock — good luck retrieving the body," "Fine him!" commenters wrote.
The Emergency Department of Mangystau Region stated under the post that the video was filmed at a swimming-restricted area about 43 kilometers from Aktau. "Swimming and jumping into waves in such places, under the current legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, carry administrative liability and are grounds for a fine," the department noted.
However, the department added that the fine is not the main issue. Every individual bears responsibility for their own life and health. A momentary risk can lead to irreversible tragedy. Officials urged compliance with safety rules and recreation only at designated, equipped beaches.
