Phil Collins has revealed the unexpected end of a 24-year feud with Paul McCartney, according to infohub.kz. The musicians fell out back in 2002 after a brief remark by the former Beatle.
During rehearsals for the concert celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee, Collins showed McCartney a rare first edition of Hunter Davies' book on The Beatles and asked for an autograph. According to Collins, McCartney then said to his wife Heather Mills: "He's a big Beatles fan, our little Phil?"
Collins admits he took the word "little" badly. "I thought, 'You prick.' I couldn't help myself," the musician told British journalist Piers Morgan. Collins later acknowledged that he may have read more into McCartney's words than they warranted.
The reconciliation came about through Collins' charity work. He was collecting music memorabilia for an auction to benefit the King's Trust charity, and McCartney learned about it. According to Collins, McCartney called him and asked what had caused their years of estrangement.
"I said, 'I'm sorry I ever said it, Paul. I'm sorry I said it.'" McCartney, Collins recalls, replied: "I thought we were fine." "So we made up," the musician said.
Collins added that he is glad they reconciled and finally discussed the old story. "He's part of my life," the musician said.
