In the Karasai district of the Almaty region, a fire broke out at the Aksai quarry. The blaze has been contained, with no threat of spreading to nearby areas, according to infohub.kz.

The incident occurred on August 3 in the Aksai Gorge. Firefighting efforts are complicated by the steep, hard-to-reach slope, difficult access for equipment, and strong wind gusts that fuel smoldering.

"Work is ongoing at the site to reclaim the land, cover the area with soil, and extinguish the remaining hot spots," the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.

Residents of Almaty have also reported a smell of smoke in the city on social media, linking it to the quarry fire. The ministry's statement did not provide official data on smoke drift or harmful emissions toward the metropolis.

The situation remains under control of the ministry.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that a fire at a solid waste landfill in the Baikonyr district of Astana could not be extinguished for several days. Work was carried out around the clock, involving about 120 people and 150 pieces of equipment, and nearly 14,900 tons of inert material were brought to the site. The fire was later fully extinguished.
