A major fire broke out at the Madina market in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, with flames spreading over an area of about 400 square meters, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Kyrgyz news outlet 24.kg, all fire trucks in the city were called in to extinguish the blaze. The Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed that ten fire crews are working at the scene. A drone was also deployed to assess the situation and coordinate efforts. Additionally, three water tankers from the municipal enterprise Tazalyk and three ambulance teams were dispatched to the market.
The fire started on the morning of August 30 in one of the containers and then spread to the shopping pavilions. According to a preliminary version from the Bishkek Main Internal Affairs Department, the cause of the fire could be a short circuit in the electrical wiring.
According to the police, there are no casualties. At the time of the fire, the market was not operating: it had been closed for three days, and traders were sent on a forced break.
The fire was contained. Rescuers continue to open closed containers to reach the remaining sources of ignition.
