A large forest fire broke out in the Borodulikha branch of the state forest nature reserve Semey Ormany in the Abai region, reports the website infohub.kz.

Given the high fire danger in the region, massive forces were promptly involved. The difficult terrain and specifics of the forest zone required immediate use of aircraft. Aviation from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Defense, and the National Security Committee have been deployed to extinguish the flames.

"To fight the fire, the deployed helicopters have already made water drops totaling 15 tons, which helps to contain the fire," the press service of the Emergency Ministry said. The operational headquarters of the Emergency Ministry coordinates all services; firefighting continues, and the situation is under constant monitoring.

To ensure safety, 190 children and 20 adults were evacuated from a children's health camp located near the fire. "The situation is under constant control, there is no threat to populated areas or life-support facilities," the press service of the Borodulikha district akimat reported.

Earlier, in early June 2023, the Semey Ormany nature reserve suffered a massive forest fire that killed 15 foresters. In early June 2026, at a government briefing, journalists asked Vice Minister Nurken Sharbiev what measures his department had taken to prevent such tragedies in the future, as well as how much the salaries of workers had increased and whether specialized equipment had been updated.
