A regular meeting of the government commission investigating the causes and aftermath of the emergency that claimed the lives of servicemen in the Mangystau Region was held in Aktau. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sanzhar Adilov reported to commission chairman Qanat Bozumbaev on the progress of the pre-trial investigation, according to infohub.kz.
According to Sanzhar Adilov, within the criminal case the status of suspects has been procedurally recorded, and five officials have been placed in the temporary detention facility in Aktau: the chief of staff — first deputy commander-in-chief of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan, two military unit commanders, a marine company commander, and a boat commander.
"Investigative and procedural measures are continuing in full, and necessary examinations are being conducted. During the investigation, a strict legal assessment will be given to the actions of all those involved, and the full circle of suspects will be definitively established," the deputy minister of internal affairs reported.
Qanat Bozumbaev emphasized that payments guaranteed by law will be made without delay, and responsible specialists will be assigned to each family for ongoing personalized support.
He also noted that thanks to the civic initiative of Kazakhstanis, the fundraising has been declared complete. To ensure fair distribution of the fund's resources to the families of the deceased and the injured, a special commission has been created headed by a member of the Qazaqstan Khalyq Keńesi and chairman of the public council of the Mangystau Region, Bekmurat Zhusipov.
Recall that on September 24, during a training and combat mission, due to a sudden and sharp deterioration in meteorological conditions and gusty winds, 17 servicemen were swept into the Caspian Sea, 14 of whom died. Three were rescued.
A criminal case has been initiated under two articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Currently, five officials of the senior command staff of the Ministry of Defense are known to have been detained. Today, the Minister of Defense promised that those responsible will be punished to the full extent of the law.
