A foreign tourist, Olesya Plyusnina, posted a video on social media showing her urinating outdoors in the Mangystau Region. Kazakh blogger Azamat Sarsenbayev was outraged by the footage, the website infohub.kz reports.
Plyusnina creates English-language travel content about destinations around the world. According to media reports, she is believed to be from Canada. She captioned the Mangystau clip: "Toilet spot, 10 out of 10."
Sarsenbayev did not appreciate the candor. He criticized the tourist for putting the act on display and noted that she relieved herself next to a tourist attraction.
"Seriously... is there really no common sense left in this world?" the blogger wrote.
In the comments, the discussion took a different turn. Some users saw the video as a reason to ask why there are not enough restrooms in places travelers visit.
"Actually everyone does this, just not on camera)) she's showing the lack of toilets)," one comment read.
Others expressed hope that the backlash would push the authorities to address the problem.
"Maybe the authorities will hear and build toilets," one user wrote.
Some commenters even suggested that Plyusnina deliberately posted the provocative footage to draw attention to the lack of facilities.
At the time of publication, Plyusnina's Instagram page was unavailable. Attempting to open the profile returned the message: "Sorry, this page isn't available." The reason is unknown: the tourist may have deleted the account, or the platform may have blocked it following user complaints.
