Information has spread on social media that a foreign national has alleged rape by police officers in the Almaty Region. The Department of Police commented on the situation, reports infohub.kz.
The public page abv_novosti on Threads published a post about a foreign citizen who reported violence in the Almaty Region. "In Qonaev, a 28-year-old foreign woman alleged gang rape by local police officers. According to the woman, she was forced to write her statement under dictation, and later police officers surveilled her apartment and removed the window screen to seize physical evidence. Out of fear, she is afraid to leave home, although she needs medical assistance; an ambulance and a patrol car have already arrived at her home," the post says.
In a video attached to the post, the woman states that she has physical evidence — underwear that retains the biological material of the alleged rapist.
The Department of Police of the Almaty Region responded to the publication. "A criminal case has been opened by police officers into this fact. The suspects have been placed in a temporary detention facility. According to the woman's statement, the incident occurred in the city of Qonaev. During initial investigative and operational-search measures, two men named in the statement were identified, detained, and brought in. All arguments and circumstances of the incident will be thoroughly checked and given an appropriate legal assessment," the police said.
It is also noted that necessary investigative and operational-search measures are currently being conducted. The investigation has been assigned to the Investigative Department of the Police Department of the Almaty Region. Other information is not subject to disclosure in the interests of the investigation.
