A suspect wanted for organizing an illegal gambling business in Almaty has been extradited from Vietnam, reports the website infohub.kz.

Officers from the General Prosecutor's Office, together with the National Central Bureau of Interpol under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan and with assistance from the Kazakh Embassy in Vietnam, carried out the extradition of the foreign national, who had been placed on an international wanted list, the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office reported.

According to the investigation, in 2022–2023 the suspect, along with an accomplice, organized an illegal gambling business in Almaty, generating criminal proceeds of over 12 million tenge. After the crime, one of the individuals was brought to criminal responsibility, while the other fled and was subsequently placed on the wanted list.

In February of this year, the man was detained in Vietnam and then, at the request of the General Prosecutor's Office, extradited to Kazakhstan. He is currently held in a pretrial detention facility.

The offense carries a penalty of up to five years in prison with confiscation of property.
