President of Kazakhstan Qasym-Jomart Toqaev has made further changes to the diplomatic corps, appointing three new ambassadors, according to the website infohub.kz.
The ambassador to Uzbekistan is Yeraly Tugzhanov, replacing Beibut Atamkulov, who has been relieved of his post. Tugzhanov is one of the most experienced officials in the personnel reserve. He was born in 1963 in Uralsk Region, graduated from Karaganda State University with a degree in Law. He served twice as Deputy Prime Minister (2020–2022), earlier as governor of Mangystau Region (2017–2019), and after his second appointment as Deputy Prime Minister in 2022, he became governor of Aktobe Region.
The ambassador to the United Kingdom is Alibek Bakayev, who previously served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. It was Bakayev who earlier this year commented on the high-profile case of Kazakh citizen Ernur Almakhan, sentenced to life imprisonment in Dubai for an armed robbery at a villa. The ambassador to Romania is Amangeldy Sainov. He has been working in the MFA system since 2021, when he was appointed head of the ministry's apparatus. Before that, Sainov worked in financial and accounting structures of the diplomatic service. He replaces Yerlik Ali as ambassador to Romania.
Earlier, on July 10, Toqaev carried out a large-scale reshuffle of the diplomatic corps. For example, Abylkair Skakov, former governor of Pavlodar Region who was dismissed after a major utility accident in Ekibastuz in 2022, was appointed ambassador to Kyrgyzstan.
