Protests by high school students in France have been ongoing for a week, with students blocking educational institutions and demonstrations accompanied by riots, arson, and clashes with law enforcement. According to the French Interior Ministry, more than 160 people have been detained, reports infohub.kz.
As reported by NUR.KZ citing RIA Novosti, which refers to local media, protests took place at nearly 180 educational institutions. The actions mainly covered the Paris region but were also observed in major cities such as Lille, Lyon, Grenoble, and Nice.
High school students are protesting against overloaded schedules, teacher shortages, and other issues in the education sector.
On Monday, French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez stated that 164 people were detained in France during the protest actions.
He specified that in total, students blocked 27 institutions, requiring law enforcement intervention. Attempts were also made to block entrances at another 50 schools. Various incidents, including damage and attacks on police officers, were recorded near other institutions.
According to preliminary data, 12 police officers, 8 teachers, including 3 principals, and about 12 students were injured.
