A teenager was seriously injured in France during high school protests outside educational institutions that have continued for several days, reports infohub.kz.

According to NUR.KZ, citing RIA Novosti, the prefect of Pas-de-Calais, François-Xavier Lauch, said in a statement broadcast by French TV channel BFMTV that the student lost part of his arm during clashes with police at protests outside a lycée in the city of Lens.

"The young man whose hand was torn off has been hospitalized in Lille; his life is not in danger," the channel reported.

The injured student is 15 years old. It is believed that his hand was torn off by a police grenade that he picked up himself.

Recall that in late September, France was gripped by protests by high school students — for a week now, students have been blocking educational institutions. More than 600 people were reported detained.

The BBC Russian Service reported that 65 school staff members, including 40 school principals, were injured during the unrest. In addition, mass protests spread to Belgium — demonstrations took place in two cities in the country.
