French presidential candidate Marine Tondelier of the Green party "Les Écologistes" has called on Interior Minister Laurent Nunez to resign. She made the statement on social media amid mass unrest during protests the day before, according to infohub.kz.

"There is no other outcome on October 17 than his resignation," Tondelier said.

According to her, the interior minister underestimated the scale of the situation and failed to take sufficient measures to ensure people's safety. As a result, entire cities were left to rioters, while peaceful demonstrators faced violence, including from police.

Recall that in late September, France was gripped by protests by high school students. The day before, spontaneous protests took place in Paris ahead of a large student demonstration, one of which ended in clashes with police and the use of tear gas.

French President Emmanuel Macron issued a statement amid ongoing protests in the country, expressing support for law enforcement officers.
