A suspect has been detained in Petropavlovsk in connection with 37 cases of fraud linked to a car repair shop, reports infohub.kz.
According to Polisia.kz, since August last year, customers paid for auto parts and repair services at the station, but the shop failed to fulfill its obligations to some clients or did so only partially. The amounts of damage often reached hundreds of thousands of tenge, and in one case exceeded 1.5 million tenge.
Car owners did not immediately contact law enforcement, hoping to resolve repair issues directly. Operatives of the criminal police department of the North Kazakhstan Region's police department compared incoming reports, identified a pattern of serial fraud, and tracked down the suspect.
The department noted: "It was established that the actual operation of the station was managed by a 26-year-old city resident, although officially the director was another person."
The suspect has been placed in a detention center. The criminal case involves 37 episodes of fraud. Police are identifying all victims and establishing the full circumstances. The investigation is ongoing.
