American singer Freddie Jackson, known for hits like You Are My Lady and Rock Me Tonight, has died just three days after his 70th birthday, infohub.kz reports.

His family announced the death of the legendary artist on Instagram.

"It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Freddie Jackson, who left us on the evening of October 5," the statement read.

His loved ones said he was a kind and generous man who loved his fans, family, friends, and music with all his heart.

"For decades, he gave us songs that became the soundtrack to our love stories, our celebrations, and our most cherished memories. That gift will live on forever," they added.

According to The Washington Post, Freddie Jackson was born on October 2, 1956, in New York and died just days after his 70th birthday.

He began his career singing gospel, later performed with the group Mystic Merlin, and worked as a backup vocalist for Melba Moore. In 1985, he released his debut album Rock Me Tonight. The title track and You Are My Lady both topped Billboard's R&B chart, and the album went platinum.

Jackson was also known for hits such as Tasty Love, Have You Ever Loved Somebody, Jam Tonight, Nice 'N' Slow, and Do Me Again.
