Almaty has launched free running workouts open to all residents and visitors of the metropolis. The sessions are led by professional coaches and are suitable for both beginners and experienced athletes. The event is organized by the 'Courage to Be First' foundation, as reported by infohub.kz.
According to the press service of the Almaty city administration, the workouts take place at the Central Stadium on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Professionals will help improve running technique and manage pace effectively. No prior registration is required, and exact times are posted on the Telegram channel @openrunam.
Additionally, every Sunday, free Community Almaty Run events are organized. Participants explore new city routes at a comfortable pace and distance. After finishing, experts share tips on nutrition, recovery, and injury prevention. Race announcements are posted on the Telegram channel @runalmatymarathon.
"A typical session includes a warm-up, running segment, cool-down, and stretching. Beginners are advised to choose a comfortable pace and inform the coach beforehand if it's their first session. Comfortable sportswear, running shoes, and water are all that's needed," the statement reads.
A great reason to start training is the upcoming 15th anniversary Almaty Marathon, scheduled for September 27 with the support of the city administration. About 16,000 participants from around the world are expected to take part.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that around 1,800 people from Kazakhstan and other countries took part in the Basqu Race Nation Kazakhstan 2026 in the Almaty region. This race is far from a typical run: participants climbed ropes and high walls, navigated monkey bars, waded through mud and water, tackled ramps, and overcame strength obstacles.
