According to the French naval prefecture for the Atlantic, a French-registered fishing trawler sank southwest of the port of Plymouth, leaving two sailors missing. This was reported by infohub.kz.
On Saturday, the trawler Maranello contacted another trawler, the Stradale, to report a problem with its fishing gear. The Stradale's crew managed to rescue three of the five crew members before the Maranello sank. However, despite an extensive search-and-rescue operation, the two sailors have not yet been found.
The two vessels were located approximately 26 nautical miles southwest of Plymouth, in an area under British responsibility. The Falmouth Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC Falmouth) coordinated the rescue operation in conjunction with French counterparts. A helicopter evacuated one of the three sailors rescued by the Stradale, who was injured, and transported him to Truro Hospital for treatment. The other two sailors were taken to Plymouth for medical attention.
According to the maritime prefecture, the search, coordinated by MRCC Falmouth, is ongoing. The French Navy's Falcon 50 aircraft, as well as two British lifeboats and two British aircraft, have been deployed in the search.
