Director Rinat Balgabaev has released a new documentary focusing on the issue of depression in Kazakh society. The film features several well-known figures, including comedian Galym Kaliakbarov, who has previously spoken openly about his own struggles. In the film's trailer, he ironically invites viewers to give him "stupid advice" on coping with the condition, reports infohub.kz.

In the film's description, Balgabaev lists the symptoms of depression and emphasizes that it has no single cause, and that even outwardly successful people can be affected. "Depression affects relationships with loved ones, studies, work, and the ability to participate in one's own life. Sometimes a person continues to socialize, smile, and fulfill their duties, so those around them may not notice what they are going through for a long time. In severe cases, thoughts of death or suicide may arise," the director notes.

In the comments under the film, Kazakhs thank Balgabaev for shedding light on the issue and share their own stories. "It seems like so much has been said about depression, but as soon as you mention 'I think I have depression,' you immediately regret saying it. In response, you get: 'Oh, stop whining, everyone's tired, oh, stop whining, everyone has it hard and we manage.' Talking about it is shameful. Talking about it means facing stigma," writes one user. Another adds: "This is something everyone should watch. For prevention, for awareness, for diagnosis, for information. For everything." A third commenter notes: "People often don't see depression in another person. Not because it isn't there, but because the person sometimes hides it behind a great sense of humor, even without realizing it. This is what I'm going through myself. To many, I'm the 'funny one.' But inside... I hug everyone who faces this."

Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported on the release of another film by Balgabaev, dedicated to victims of fraud in Kazakhstan.
