Chinese automaker Geely has unveiled the new-generation Boyue L i-HEV hybrid crossover, which can already be considered a harbinger of the upcoming Atlas update for the Russian market. The new model is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo engine and an electric drive producing 230 kW (about 313 hp), and it does not require plugging into an outlet. In terms of dimensions, the car slightly exceeds the current Geely Atlas, reports infohub.kz.

The key feature of the Geely Boyue L i-HEV is its new hybrid powertrain that operates on the principle of “electricity first, engine assists.” At its core is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, and the peak power of the electric drive reaches 230 kW, which corresponds to approximately 313 hp. It is important to note that this refers specifically to the power of the electric part, not the entire system. Geely has not yet disclosed the final output of the hybrid or the official acceleration time.

Another distinctive feature is the absence of a need to charge the battery from an external source. Unlike plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) such as some versions of the Chery Tiggo 8 or BYD Song Plus, the Boyue L i-HEV is a conventional full hybrid that generates its own electricity while driving.

Geely claims a thermal efficiency of up to 48.4% for the hybrid engine. Energy distribution is managed by the AI Cloud Power algorithm, which controls the operation of the engine and the electric part.

The dimensions of the new Boyue L i-HEV are 4730 mm in length, 1910 mm in width, and 1710 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2785 mm. For comparison, the current Geely Atlas has a length of 4670 mm, a width of 1900 mm, and a wheelbase of 2777 mm. Thus, the new Chinese crossover is 60 mm longer, and the distance between the axles has increased by 8 mm. However, this refers specifically to the version presented in China, and there is no information yet on possible deliveries of this modification to Russia.

Inside the Boyue L i-HEV, there is a Flyme Auto multimedia system with a 15.4-inch screen with 2.5K resolution. The electronics are powered by a 7-nm Dragon Eagle 1 chip with 16 GB of RAM and 128 GB of built-in storage. Additionally, the crossover features an AR-HUD head-up display with a 25.6-inch diagonal.

For the driver assistance system, a more advanced H5 suite with a roof-mounted lidar is provided. The current Boyue L uses the H3 system with three millimeter-wave radars, 11 cameras, and a computing chip with a capacity of 128 TOPS.

Geely has not yet revealed the price of the Boyue L i-HEV or the full list of specifications. Therefore, it is too early to compare it with the Geely Atlas, Changan CS75 Plus, Haval F7, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max, or other mass-market crossovers in terms of dynamics and fuel consumption. But the main point is already clear: Geely is transitioning one of its key SUVs to a new hybrid technology, betting on electric drive without the need to find an outlet.
