The Geely Galaxy EX5 electric crossover is preparing for an update on the Chinese market: fresh images of the model have surfaced ahead of its official premiere, which a source says is scheduled for September 21. The most noticeable new detail in the photos is a large front trunk under the hood, according to infohub.kz.

The exact volume of the front compartment has not yet been disclosed, but the load limit is already known. A special label states that the "frunk" is rated for a maximum of 50 kg. For comparison, the smaller Geely E2, also known as the Geely Galaxy EX2, has a front trunk with a volume of 70 liters.

The addition of this compartment stems from changes to the crossover's design, including a switch to rear-wheel drive. The new location of the charging port — moved from the front fender to the rear — points to the same change.

The updated EX5 gets an electric motor on the rear axle rated at 245 kW, or 329 hp. That is 114 hp more than the current version. At the same time, top speed has risen from 175 to 201 km/h.

The electric motor draws energy from an LFP battery, though its capacity has not yet been revealed. The crossover measures 4636×1920×1670 mm, with a wheelbase of 2750 mm. In length, the new EX5 is 21 mm longer than the current version.

The exterior has not been heavily reworked: there are new bumpers and semi-concealed door handles, and a lidar is visible on the roof. The sensor points to the use of the G-ASD G-Pilot H5 driver assistance system, which supports the Navigate On Autopilot function in the city and on highways.

In addition, the crossover has gained side cameras in the front fenders and an extra camera built into the roof spoiler.

Geely Galaxy PR head Shan Aifu previously said that in terms of design the EX5 has generally remained the same, but the model's construction, internal components and electronic systems were completely reworked.

On the Kazakh market, the Geely Galaxy EX5 is offered in two variants — electric and hybrid. The EX5 EM-i starts at 12.1 million tenge, while the fully electric version starts at 13.9 million tenge.

In the first seven months of 2026, official dealers sold 910 Geely Galaxy EX5 EM-i vehicles. Among hybrid passenger cars, the model ranked second in popularity, behind the BYD Song Plus DM-i and ahead of the Toyota Camry.
