A massive blackout has paralyzed Georgia – almost the entire country, including the capital Tbilisi, is without electricity. The causes of the emergency are still being investigated, according to infohub.kz.
According to local media reports, the outage affected most of the country. Users on social media from various regions reported power outages. This was confirmed by residents of Batumi as well as the regions of Guria, Samegrelo, Racha, and Dusheti, located near the Georgian Military Highway.
In Tbilisi, traffic lights and street lighting on central streets stopped working, creating serious difficulties for traffic and pedestrians.
The cause of the massive failure is suspected to be a major accident at one of the power plants. No official comments on the exact circumstances have been received yet.
Later, the Georgian State Electric System announced that power supply had begun to be restored in stages. "Restoration of electricity supply across the country is ongoing stage by stage. At the moment, power supply has been partially restored in Tbilisi – in the districts of Didube, Vake, Mtatsminda and Krtsanisi. Electricity has also been restored in parts of Kutaisi, Chiatura, Sachkhere, Oni and Ambrolauri," the agency said.
