The world premiere of the long-awaited sequel to the Oscar-winning Japanese film "Godzilla Minus One" will be the highlight of the Spotlight Gala program at the 64th New York Film Festival, reports infohub.kz.
Organizers of the prestigious film event announced that the screening of director Takashi Yamazaki's film will take place on September 26 at Alice Tully Hall. The director, screenwriter, and visual effects specialist will personally present the film along with the cast and crew.
The events of the new film unfold in 1949, two years after the finale of the first part. The story again centers on the Shikishima family, who are trying to rebuild their lives after World War II and face a new threat from the giant monster. According to the festival's artistic director, Dennis Lim, the film retains the spirit of a classic blockbuster with deep human drama.
The previous installment, "Godzilla Minus One," grossed $116 million worldwide and earned Yamazaki an Oscar for Best Visual Effects. The sequel is set for a wide release in Japan on November 3, with North American screenings starting on November 6.
