Kazakhstan has launched the application process for educational grants provided by local executive bodies. This year, akimats have allocated 2,392 grants for bachelor's, master's, and residency programs, reports infohub.kz.
Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek noted on his Telegram channel that akimats annually provide grants for targeted training of personnel in fields that are in demand and priority for the regions.
The largest number of grants has been allocated in Astana — 303. Shymkent has 285 grants, East Kazakhstan Region — 270. West Kazakhstan Region has 211 grants, Abai and Turkistan regions — 200 each, Akmola Region — 199. Another 198 grants are allocated in Karaganda Region, 187 in Atyrau, and 163 in Mangystau. The remaining regions have allocated about 100 grants each.
Akimat grants are intended for training personnel in areas considered in demand for specific regions.
To participate in the competition, applicants must submit an application to the admissions committee of the chosen university, attaching an education document, a certificate of the main UNT, and a copy of their ID. If applicable, documents confirming eligibility for benefits are also provided. The decision on awarding educational grants is made by a special commission established under the respective akimat. Information on application deadlines can be obtained from akimats and university admissions committees. The application period for higher education institutions will last until August 25.
Earlier it was reported that this year more than 75,000 applicants received state educational grants. The competition was higher than last year: in 2025, 113,000 applications were submitted, while in 2026, it was already 127,000. Earlier, Sayasat Nurbek addressed applicants who failed to receive a state educational grant, urging them not to view the competition results as final and reminding them of other opportunities for free education — regional, rector's, and corporate grants, as well as the possibility of obtaining a vacated state grant.
