The Greenlink energy project has had to adjust its pipeline route to avoid disturbing a makeshift memorial on Freshwater West beach in Wales, where, according to legend, Dobby the elf from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series died. This was reported by infohub.kz.
The project, valued at 430 million euros, planned to lay a pipeline to transport solar and wind energy from the UK to Ireland. The works would have affected Freshwater West beach, said Simon Ludlam, former project director.
In the saga, it is on this spot that Dobby the elf dies. Harry Potter fans have created an impromptu memorial on the beach in honor of the character. When local authorities approved the pipeline and the news spread in the media, the energy company began receiving hundreds of calls from outraged fans of the books and films. Eventually, the company was forced to reroute the connector pipeline around the beach.
Meanwhile, in the Turkistan and Zhetysu regions of Kazakhstan, archaeological monuments have been damaged. In the former, they were lost due to cotton planting, while in Zhetysu, unique petroglyphs are at risk due to the construction of a cascade of hydroelectric power stations.
Earlier, it was also reported that Almaty residents emotionally discussed the demolition of a burial mound in the city.
