A freight train struck a flock of 70 sheep that had wandered onto the railway tracks in Zhambyl Region, and the owner of the animals has been held administratively liable, infohub.kz reports.
The incident occurred on the Zhuma-Tamdy section. According to the Transport Police Department, an administrative protocol was drawn up against the livestock owner — a 66-year-old resident of Taraz — for violating the rules on grazing livestock within the railway right-of-way.
The department also provided statistics: since the beginning of this year, 1,166 cases of emergency train braking have been recorded, with 881 of them linked to domestic animals entering the railway tracks.
"Transport police urge livestock owners to prevent uncontrolled grazing of animals near railway tracks and to strictly observe the established rules. Remember: responsibility for the safety of animals lies primarily with their owners. A single uncontrolled entry of livestock onto railway tracks can lead to an emergency, material damage, and pose a threat to human life and health," the department added.
