In Guatemala, 15-year-old Yuleidy Ixtotoyak, whom her family had believed dead, regained consciousness during her own wake — the girl stirred in her coffin, opened her eyes and spoke, according to infohub.kz.

It began with a trip: Yuleidy was riding with her father to a medical center when she fell ill on the way. The girl suffered severe heart pain and then lost consciousness.

Her father stopped the car and tried to check his daughter's pulse and breathing. According to him, there was neither, and he concluded the girl had died. However, instead of driving to a hospital, he turned the car around and went home. No doctor examined the girl, and no one officially confirmed her death. The family assumed Yuleidy could not be saved, bought a coffin and began preparing for the funeral.

The next day, relatives gathered at the house in the village of El Jocote. The girl's mother was weeping over the coffin when she suddenly noticed her daughter moving. The relatives opened the lid, and Yuleidy unexpectedly sat up.

Video from the scene shows relatives helping the girl out of the coffin. People around shout "Hallelujah," and later give her water. Instead of a farewell, the family got the chance to embrace their daughter again.

Yuleidy herself said that before losing consciousness she felt severe chest pain and heaviness, and then blacked out. After the incident, she thanked her parents and God for being alive. According to her, her hands trembled for a long time, but her strength is gradually returning. She is now at home and recovering.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote that every third Kazakhstani cannot pay for funeral rites without debts and loans. In 2026, 34.7% were in this situation. Among pensioners, the figure is even higher.
