A trial has begun in Taraz for the head of the Zhambyl region department of the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control, Aigul Balgabayeva. She is accused of taking a bribe to issue a license to a private medical facility, reports a correspondent from Orda.kz.
Alongside the department head, representatives of two private companies are also in the dock.
According to information received by the editorial board, the criminal case is being tried under Part 2 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan — 'Receiving a bribe'.
According to the investigation, Balgabayeva demanded money for a favorable decision on issuing a license for medical activities to private medical organizations. The alleged bribe amount, per the prosecution, is one million tenge.
Aigul Balgabayeva became head of the regional department of the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control in September 2024. The department's responsibilities include overseeing medical organizations, licensing medical and pharmaceutical activities, and monitoring compliance with healthcare legislation.
This is not the first corruption scandal in this department. In 2025, a court found deputy head Madina Shinalieva guilty.
