Law enforcement authorities in Kazakhstan's Almaty Region have uncovered a cell of the banned religious extremist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, according to infohub.kz.

NUR.KZ, citing the regional department for religious affairs, reported that the information was published on the agency's official Instagram page. In the village of Shelek in the Enbekshikazakh district, police officers, coordinating with authorized agencies, carried out a series of operations targeting individuals suspected of involvement in the activities of Hizb ut-Tahrir, a religious extremist organization banned in Kazakhstan. The cell had recruited 25 local residents.

During court-sanctioned searches of the suspects' homes and personal searches, electronic devices and religious materials were found and seized. The items confiscated included 11 smartphones, 93 books, 16 brochures, 2 notebooks, and a notepad containing religious writings.

Necessary investigative and procedural measures are currently being carried out as part of a pre-trial investigation. Authorities are working to establish all the circumstances of the case, examining the seized literature and electronic materials, and determining the extent of the individuals' involvement in the banned organization's activities. A legal assessment of the suspects' actions will be made based on the results of the operations.
