Hong Kong's Centre for Health Protection (CHP) has issued an official press release announcing a significant surge in mpox cases in the region, according to infohub.kz.
According to the agency, the number of infected individuals in the region has increased by 70 percent over the past month.
The document emphasizes that since August, 21 new cases have been detected in Hong Kong, accounting for 70 percent of all cases reported this year.
According to the release, since 2022, a total of 114 mpox cases have been officially recorded in the city, of which 90 are local and 24 are imported. It is noted that all identified patients are male. So far this year, 30 cases have been reported, including 23 local and seven imported from abroad.
In response to the significant rise in infections, CHP management is implementing targeted preventive and control measures, using a comprehensive approach to interrupt chains of transmission. Meanwhile, vaccination coverage under a special mpox program is gradually being scaled up.
