Chinese premium brand Hongqi has unveiled a new generation of traction battery that can charge from 10% to 70% in just 3 minutes and 41 seconds, one of the best rates among production-ready technologies, reports infohub.kz.
The high charging speed is enabled by a new battery platform and an ultra-powerful system. In a few minutes, the vehicle gains about 400 km of range under the Chinese CLTC cycle. The battery also maintains fast charging performance even at low temperatures.
The new battery was showcased alongside Hongqi's updated electric platform. The company said it will become the foundation for future electric vehicles under the brand. While the technology is still in the demonstration phase, FAW expects to integrate it into production models in the coming years.
Chinese automakers are actively competing on charging speed: BYD previously introduced a megawatt charging system, followed by Zeekr, Huawei, and others. Now Hongqi has joined the race.
If such technologies become widespread, the time required to charge an electric car would approach that of refueling a gasoline vehicle. This would require a new generation of charging stations.
Earlier, Kursiv Avto reported on Hongqi's first SUV, the G919.
