A court in the Zhambyl Region has ordered a horse owner to compensate for damages caused when his animal collided with a passenger train. The man will pay 531,000 tenge to the railway company, according to the website infohub.kz.
The incident occurred in November 2025 on the Otar-Shu section. A horse ran onto the tracks while a passenger train was moving. The driver applied emergency brakes and sounded the horn, but could not avoid the collision.
As a result, the electric locomotive was damaged and sent for repairs. The railway company estimated the cost of restoration work at 531,000 tenge.
During the investigation, the horse's owner was identified. The court found that the man had previously been held administratively liable for violating rules on livestock grazing near the railway.
The carrier then filed a lawsuit in the Shu District Court seeking compensation for material damage. The court concluded that the locomotive damage was caused by improper keeping and grazing of the animal, and therefore granted the claim.
The horse owner was ordered to pay 531,000 tenge in damages and also to cover the court fee.
The court decision has not yet entered into force.
