Human remains, possibly those of several people, have been discovered during the construction of a new sports complex in Semey. Work at the site has been halted pending an investigation, according to infohub.kz.
As reported by Almaty TV, the grim find was made on the grounds of the former Pishchevik stadium, where the Palace of Martial Arts was being built. During earthworks, builders came across bone fragments believed to be human.
Experts will now determine the age of the remains and whether the area was once a burial site. The decision to continue or relocate construction will be made after all necessary studies are completed.
"The remains have been sent for forensic examination to establish their origin and approximate time of burial. Police remind citizens: if you make such a discovery, immediately report it to the authorities and do not take any independent action before police arrive," said Sayat Sartov, an operative officer of the criminal police department.
