Gergő Borbély, a resident of the Hungarian city of Debrecen, has officially entered the Guinness Book of Records, earning the title for the world's largest collection of energy drink cans, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Guinness World Records website, Borbély's hobby began by chance in 2008. After moving into a student dormitory, he bought a can of HELL energy drink on a hot summer day. Gradually, empty cans accumulated in his room, and the student decided to keep one of each type to decorate the interior.
Over years of traveling to Japan and European countries, the collection grew to 2,000 unique cans. Among the most valuable items are a Yugoslavian Guarana can from the country's existence, a Japanese Alien drink in a glass bottle, a 1994 Semtex can, and a rare Michael Jackson Mystery series from the 1990s. Particularly significant to the collector are cans featuring the anime "Chainsaw Man," acquired during his honeymoon in Japan.
Currently, the collection is housed in the attic room of Borbély's home: about 900 cans are attached to the sloped ceiling with Velcro, while the rest stand on shelves. The estimated value of the collection ranges from 10,000 to 35,000 euros. Borbély's daughter inspired the record's presentation. Preparing the catalog, inventory, and photographs took several hundred hours of evening work with his wife's support. In the future, the record holder plans to open the first interactive energy drink museum.
