Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has been questioned as a suspect in a phone theft case after lawmakers stripped him of his immunity, according to infohub.kz.

Hungarian prosecutors questioned the prime minister over an incident at a nightclub. Magyar denied any wrongdoing.

"This evening, at a previously agreed time, I was questioned at the Central Chief Investigative Prosecutor's Office in connection with the events of June 21, 2024. I made a brief statement and did not admit guilt to the offense I am accused of," the Hungarian prime minister said on social media.

Magyar claims the case was a provocation by the previous authorities. The phone is valued at around 275 euros. Under Article 370 of Hungary's Criminal Code, the offense carries a fine, community service or up to two years in prison.

Recall that Hungary's prime minister, Péter Magyar, was stripped of his immunity after a case involving another citizen's phone. Magyar had earlier asked lawmakers from his party to support the Prosecutor General's Office request so that he could answer in the case of the discarded phone.
