In the East Kazakhstan region, a convict who was on the run has been detained after hunger drove him back home, reports the website infohub.kz.
According to the press service of the regional Department of the Criminal Executive System, the man, who was registered with the probation service, systematically violated the order of serving his sentence: he failed to report for registration, was absent from his place of residence, and evaded control.
Due to repeated violations, the probation service filed a motion with the court to replace probation supervision with imprisonment. However, during the court hearing, the man complained of poor health and asked to postpone the case. After receiving a delay, he went into hiding.
After initial search efforts proved fruitless, the convict was officially placed on the wanted list, and the running of his sentence was suspended. "Even after his own father's death, he did not show up for the funeral, continuing to hide. The turning point in the search came from digital tools used by the probation service. After a phone call made from the wanted man's mobile device, his activity was detected, which allowed us to quickly establish his whereabouts," the Department of the Criminal Executive System for the East Kazakhstan region said.
Probation officers together with police immediately went to the address. To rule out the possibility of escape, they entered the house simultaneously through the main and back entrances. At that moment, the wanted man was sitting at the table at home, eating food prepared by his mother. The convict was detained on the spot and taken to a temporary detention facility.
In the near future, the court will consider replacing the previously imposed sentence of probation supervision with imprisonment, with the convict being sent to a correctional facility.
