Hyundai is preparing one of the most extensive facelifts for its Santa Fe SUV in recent years. Based on fresh spy photos and videos, the vehicle will get an almost entirely new front end, reports infohub.kz.
The fifth-generation Santa Fe has proven to be one of Hyundai's most polarizing models. Its boxy body and H-shaped lighting have divided buyers into two camps. Apparently, the Korean automaker has decided to significantly revise the crossover's appearance to make it more appealing to a broader audience.
Test prototypes already show a new LED daytime running light strip spanning the full width of the vehicle. The main headlight units will remain positioned lower, and the front end will become more minimalist and modern. A new grille, redesigned front bumper, and cleaner side panels are also expected.
The updates will also affect the rear. The 2027 Santa Fe will retain vertical taillights, but a wide LED brake light bar will be added between them. Additionally, designers will relocate the license plate recess and tweak the rear bumper design. As a result, the crossover should look less "boxy" and move closer in style to the new Hyundai Tucson, Palisade, and Nexo.
Changes won't be limited to styling. Hyundai has already confirmed that Santa Fe versions with the 2.5-liter turbo engine will lose the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Owners have often complained about jerky shifts and less-than-smooth operation at low speeds. Instead, a conventional eight-speed automatic with a torque converter will be installed. The hybrid version will retain its existing powertrain: a 1.6-liter turbo engine paired with a six-speed automatic.
According to The Korean Car Blog, this deep update may be a response to mixed customer reactions to the current Santa Fe. Despite interest in the hybrid version, sales have begun to decline, with some buyers opting for more traditional rivals like the Kia Sorento and Toyota Highlander.
The updated Hyundai Santa Fe is expected to debut in late 2026 or early 2027. Earlier reports also mentioned an upcoming Kia Sportage refresh and a new interior for the 2027 Hyundai Tucson.
