The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), together with major music distributors, is launching the Streaming Integrity Initiative aimed at protecting artists, rights holders, and listeners from streaming fraud, according to infohub.kz.
As Engadget reports, stream manipulation using artificial intelligence and automated systems causes revenue to flow away from real artists to unscrupulous manipulators.
Under the new project, its participants have committed to five key principles. Distributors will implement strict procedures for verifying user identities and content rights, as well as employ modern tools to identify AI-related risks.
In addition, companies that have signed the agreement intend to share data on bad actors and regularly update their protection systems.
Industry giants such as Sony Music Group, Universal Music Group, and the organization Merlin have already joined the initiative. IFPI representatives are calling on other players in the music market to sign the document to form a united front against evolving cyber threats.
