Kazakhstan has simplified the registration procedure for smartphones brought in from abroad. Now, when verifying IMEI, applicants no longer need to collect additional documents themselves: the system automatically checks all necessary data, including border crossing information, according to infohub.kz.
Previously, to confirm the legality of a phone's import, applicants had to obtain additional information from other resources. Now the data comes directly from government databases.
IMEI verification primarily concerns Kazakh citizens who buy smartphones abroad and bring them into the country. The procedure is also available for importers of mobile devices.
The new IMEI verification rules took effect in Kazakhstan on March 25, 2025. Phones that were already used in Kazakh mobile networks before that date and were registered do not need to be re-verified.
If a new phone ends up on the "gray list," there are 30 days to confirm the legality of its import. If verification is not passed, the device may be disconnected from Kazakh mobile networks.
Applications can be submitted via the eGov Mobile app or the portal.imei.gov.kz website.
In eGov Mobile, you need to open the "Popular Services" section, select "IMEI Verification Application," and consent to personal data processing. After that, you will need to undergo biometric identification via Digital ID, review the terms, and choose the appropriate application option.
Video identification is required for identity confirmation.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that since August 20, the sale of unverified devices has been banned in Kazakhstan, and sellers must inform buyers of the device's IMEI code in advance so they can check it before purchase.
