A woman in the Indian state of Odisha has given birth to a baby with two heads. The infant was born at 32 weeks of pregnancy and is currently under doctors' supervision, according to infohub.kz.
As reported by NUR.KZ, citing NDTV, the newborn has two heads but a single pair of arms and legs. The baby was taken to the neonatal intensive care unit at the medical college and hospital in the city of Berhampur. It is noted that this is the couple's first child.
"The rare congenital condition is called dicephalic parapagus. In this state, the child has two heads and two necks joined to a single body. According to published reports, the infant also has one urogenital tract and male external genitalia. The child remains under medical supervision. Doctors are assessing its condition to determine the further course of treatment and the necessary scope of specialized care," the publication says.
By the way, conjoined twins are extremely rare, occurring in roughly one case per 300,000 births.
"The coming days will be important for assessing the newborn's condition. Further care will depend on the specifics of its body structure, the state of its internal organs, and possible complications," the outlet added.
