Torrential rains have battered the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, killing at least 56 people and damaging more than a thousand homes, according to infohub.kz.
Citing state government data, NUR.KZ reported via India Today that 56 people died and 46 were injured during 60 hours of continuous rainfall. In addition, 107 animals perished and 1,021 homes were damaged.
Sitapur recorded the highest death toll with seven fatalities, while Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, and Balrampur each reported five. In Hargo, 272 homes were damaged — more than in any other district. The intense rains caused flooding and disrupted transportation in several areas.
According to meteorological data, Banda received 227.6 mm of rain in 24 hours, Fatehgarh 224 mm, Nanpara in Bahraich district 217 mm, and Hargo 214 mm.
For Sunday, September 27, the India Meteorological Department again forecast heavy rain and thunderstorms in several areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
