The 2026 constitutional reform in Kazakhstan has become one of the most significant political events in Central Asia in recent years, according to infohub.kz.
This assessment was given by Dr. Hartanto, a lecturer in the Department of International Relations and an interdisciplinary researcher in energy security and geoeconomics at the National Development University "Veteran" in Jakarta.
According to the scholar, the new Constitution reflects Kazakhstan's aspiration for institutional modernization and political renewal.
"It introduces a more balanced distribution of power, strengthens legislative oversight, enhances the independence of the judiciary, and reinforces the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms," Hartanto noted.
He emphasized that the reforms demonstrate Kazakhstan's commitment to strengthening democratic governance while maintaining political stability.
"Another important achievement is the expansion of citizen participation through new institutional mechanisms. The Constitution also strengthens the Constitutional Court and recognizes digital rights, data protection, and broader access to constitutional justice. These measures address the challenges of modern governance and increase accountability to society," the researcher stated.
In Hartanto's view, in the Central Asian context, Kazakhstan's constitutional transformation represents an example of finding a balance between political stability and institutional openness.
"I wish Kazakhstan further success on its path toward a more inclusive, accountable, and prosperous future," the Indonesian scholar concluded.
