Nineteen residents of Astana have fallen victim to fraudsters offering custom-made furniture, with total damages exceeding 24.6 million tenge, reports infohub.kz.
A court in the capital has sentenced two defendants in a fraud case involving custom furniture manufacturing. Each received six years in prison.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, one victim, after seeing an advertisement for furniture production on Instagram, signed a contract. After measurements were taken, he transferred 4.5 million tenge. However, the two fraudsters then stopped communicating.
In total, 19 citizens were affected, with damages exceeding 24.6 million tenge. The state prosecutor presented all evidence of the defendants' guilt in court.
The court sentenced each to six years in prison, with a 10-year ban on holding leadership positions in commercial and non-commercial organizations, the supervisory body added.
Civil lawsuits filed by the victims have been fully satisfied and will be collected from the defendants.
