Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has filed an official complaint with the United Nations over the actions of the United States, according to infohub.kz.
As reported by the Iranian news agency IRNA, the head of the Islamic Republic's foreign ministry has called on the UN Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, and all member states to assess and condemn Washington's actions.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry's statement emphasizes: "After failing to achieve their criminal goals in two aggressive wars against Iran in 2025 and 2026, the United States has decided to pursue the same unlawful objectives through pressure and coercion, engaging in an operation of economic terrorism."
Araghchi noted that U.S. sanctions and restrictions are systematic and deliberately deprive civilians of access to food, medicine, medical equipment, and energy. He said such actions constitute collective punishment and require the criminal prosecution of those who order and execute these measures.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the start of a "crushing economic operation" against Iran and warned other countries of potential consequences. Subsequently, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Washington could deny access to the U.S. dollar to nations that do not support sanctions against Tehran.
