Iran's Foreign Ministry has revealed details of a memorandum on the Strait of Hormuz being developed jointly with Oman. According to the document, the temporary shipping route will be divided: entry into the Persian Gulf will be through Iranian waters, and exit through Oman's territorial waters, with both routes passing through Iranian waters, reports infohub.kz.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi explained that this route is temporary. Within 30-60 days, the sides will hold talks on establishing a permanent corridor to replace the temporary one. Importantly, under the memorandum, military vessels will be barred from passage; only commercial ships will be able to use the strait.
The diplomat also stressed that Iran is in a state of war, so the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. The memorandum with Oman does not mean the strait will reopen immediately. For a full reopening, Tehran demands that Washington fulfill the terms of the June memorandum, including lifting the naval blockade, ending hostilities on all fronts, and resolving the situation in Yemen.
